My name is John O’Connor and I am a numismatist from Kawartha Lakes Ontario with a growing passion for finding, discovering, and documenting mint made doubled die varieties on the obverse and reverse of Canadian circulating and non-circulating coins.

I had become inspired to write about doubled die varieties in late 2018 when I started conversating with experts and like-minded collectors on the Coin Community forum where I was made aware that for Canada, doubled die examples for circulation and proof-like sets were virtually unheard of except for a select few well-known examples.

Since then, I have spent the last 5 years exclusively studying, documenting, and identifying doubled die varieties on Canadian circulating and non-circulating coins and compiled all of my finds and discoveries into the First Edition of Modern Canadian Doubled Die Varieties.

Included in my research catalogue, collectors will find over 100 images for 57 doubled die listings spread out across the 1c, 5c, 10c, $1, and $2 denominations from 1941 to 2022.

Additionally, there is an extensive reference list compiling 173 doubled die varieties across 1c, 5c, 10, 25c, 50c, $1, and $2 denominations from 1941 to 2022 that would not have been possible without the help of experts, collectors, websites, and coin community forum members who have given me permission to reference Coin Community forum posts, photos, websites, listings, and listing numbers.

Not only does it include all of the doubled die varieties that are currently known for Canadian circulating and non-circulating coins, but it also includes detailed resources for collectors to help learn how to correctly identify doubled die varieties, understand how they can occur, and what forms of worthless doubling that should be avoided.
